Skiing in Andorra: 3 Resorts to Check Out by Earl Knudsen
When you go skiing in Andorra, you’ll have lots of options when looking for ski resorts that will be able to provide you with the relaxing and comfortable experience you are looking for. If it is luxury skiing chalets that you’re after, there is plenty of wonderful accommodation to fit the bill.
Here is a quick guide to three of the best resorts in Andorra for those looking for a fun ski experience with plenty to enjoy both on and off the slopes.
1. Arinsal
Whether you choose luxury skiing chalets or something more basic and affordable, Arinsal is a good resort for families, especially where there are less experienced skiers in the party. The wide runs here are great for anyone who is still a bit unsure on the slopes, and the instruction available is excellent. There is also a cable car to Pal – a great ski area for all levels of ability.
There is plenty of fun to be had off the slopes, with some great restaurants, including Bambu for Chinese food and El Bosca for pizza. If you head out in the evening you can try Quo Vadis for live sports or El Cisco, another favourite. If it’s something a bit quieter you require then the Arinsal hotel could be the best option.
2. Pas De La Casa
Pas de la Casa is situated on the border with France, and it is very popular with skiers of all ages and abilities – although it is perhaps more suited to beginners and intermediates. There is good snow reliability here, and the snowmaking machines provide a good backup, so you can expect to enjoy great, regular skiing here throughout the season.
There are lots of places to go shopping, and plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants in which to enjoy the apres ski scene. These include Amadeus, which is a popular pub and disco, and El Mexicano, which is popular with the late crowd.
3. Soldeu
The slopes of Soldeu are suitable for beginners, and whether you come here to enjoy a stay in luxury skiing chalets or just for a fun winter getaway with the family, you’re sure to have a great time. The British instructors provide an excellent service and ensure there are no language problems for learners.
The apres ski scene is especially good here. There are lots of top quality restaurants, including Llac dels Pessons, renowned for its excellent grilled meat. For some lively evening entertainment, head to Aspen or the Avalanche.
Andorra is a fantastic place for winter sports, and you can’t go wrong with the above three resorts when starting your search for luxury skiing chalets.
